Step by step

Connect your data

  1. 1

    Open Connections

Tap More, the last tab in your bar. Under Your setup, tap Connections.

The tile shows how many sources you have connected, so you can check at a glance.

  2. 2

    Connect Apple Health

Tap Connect next to Apple Health. In Health Access, tap Turn On All, then Allow.

Protocol imports the last year of steps, sleep, heart rate variability and workouts, then keeps syncing in the background. Anything that writes to Apple Health comes along too, like an Apple Watch, a smart scale or another fitness app.

  3. 3

    Connect Oura or WHOOP

Tap Connect next to Oura or WHOOP. Read how your data is used, tap Continue, then sign in to your Oura or WHOOP account and allow access.

Back in Protocol, the row shows Connected. Your recent sleep, recovery and activity start syncing right away.

If something's off

Missing steps, sleep or workouts

Check what Protocol can read

Open the Health app, tap your profile picture, then Apps, then Protocol. Turn on anything that's off, like Steps or Sleep, then come back and tap Sync now on Connections.

Pull in the latest

On Connections, tap Sync now under Connected. Apple Health also syncs on its own in the background.

Oura or WHOOP says Reconnect

Its sign-in expired, so syncing paused. Tap Reconnect and sign in again. Nothing is lost.

Two sources disagree

If your watch and your ring both track sleep, Protocol picks the more reliable one. To choose yourself, tap Choose which source wins on Connections.

New phone?

Apple Health permission is per iPhone. On a new phone, open Connections and tap Connect on Apple Health again. Oura and WHOOP carry over with your account.

Disconnect

Tap Connected next to Oura or WHOOP, then Disconnect. Protocol stops syncing and deletes the data it stored from that source.

Tips

On the web

Oura and WHOOP connect from your profile at stayonprotocol.com, under Connected devices. Apple Health lives on your iPhone, so it connects from the app.

Don't see your device?

On Connections, tap Request an integration and tell us what you use.

Cycle tracking

Cycle data is separate and off by default. Turn it on in Settings and your coach reads recovery in the context of your cycle. Turn on cycle tracking.

Set goals that use your data

Sleep, recovery, HRV and resting heart rate goals need a connected source. Set your goals.
