Turn on cycle tracking

HRV and resting heart rate shift across a menstrual cycle. Share your period days from Apple Health and your coach reads those numbers in the context of your cycle, instead of mistaking a normal change for poor recovery.

Step by step

Turn on cycle tracking

  1. 1

    Open Cycle tracking

Tap More, then Settings. Under Coach, tap Cycle tracking.

Don't see it? It appears once Apple Health is connected, unless Health lists your sex as male. Connect Apple Health first.

  2. 2

    Connect in Apple Health

Tap Connect in Apple Health. Apple Health asks for one thing, Menstrual Flow. Switch it on and tap Allow.

The page shows Connected. From then on, your coach takes your cycle into account when it reads your HRV, resting heart rate and recovery.

Tips

What Protocol reads

Only your period days (menstrual flow). Nothing else from cycle tracking, like symptoms or ovulation tests.

Log your period somewhere Health can see

Log it in the Health app or any cycle app that writes to Apple Health, and Protocol picks it up.

Turn it off

Open the Health app, tap your profile picture, then Apps, then Protocol, and switch off Menstrual Flow. Nothing else changes.
